How to Win a Trip to Ireland: 4 Easy Steps

Sorry for the deceptive title, but what it should read is: How to help a waitress who owes $2,300 in rental car damages win a trip back to Ireland (in four easy steps)!

Here’s the deal.

At the beginning of the summer, I joined a Facebook group called “Tourism Ireland.” It featured awesome pictures and travel tips and, as I recently discovered, contests to win trips to Ireland.

The prize was not what I noticed, however; what I noticed was this contest itself. It was called “Why I love the Cliffs of Moher,” and it instructed people to upload their photos from the Cliffs of Moher.

I got super excited because Taryn and I actually got creative in our photos at the Cliffs of Moher. It was our “vision,” if you will, to take yoga pics at sunset (or sunrise) on the Cliffs of Moher. We spoke half-jokingly of this, thinking the odds of doing so were slim. But because of the late hour at which we arrived and the fact that we didn’t want to postpone till the next day for fear of predicted rain, we showed up to a nearly-empty Cliffs of Moher, with subdued lighting, and freedom to take off our shoes and experiment with hundreds of photos.

These are some of my favorites:

What a lovely image of sudden death.

"Hallelujah!" chorus

So, I saw the words “Cliffs of Moher” and “Photo Contest” and thought “Surely I have the most unique photo!”

Translated: I deserve to win!

Well, that’s not likely to happen because, as I mentioned in my last post, Facebook and I are not friends. My mom, God bless her heart, shared the link with her friends, and they were dedicated enough to join Facebook JUST to vote for me (or maybe that was just my dad.) Meanwhile, the other 800 friends I have on Facebook remain uninterested.

(Quick shout out of thanks to those who HAVE voted! You know who you are, and I appreciate it! :) )

One problem that my mom’s friends have had, however, is HOW to vote. So, I will provide four easy steps to voting to help them and anyone else out there who has, like, ten seconds and wants to vote. It’s free. It’s easy. And if by some miracle I end up making it to the judges round, and win, I will offer my tickets to two people more deserving of a trip to the Emerald Isle than myself (i.e., Mom and Dad)

STEP ONE: Click on this link

STEP TWO: (if not already there) Click on “View Entries”

In the middle of the screen, to the right of the heart: How to Enter, Prizes, VIEW ENTRIES, Terms and Conditions. (note ALL CAPS added for emphasis)

It will take you to a page with entries.

Scroll down and try not to look too hard at the other entries in case they’re better than mine (I’ve seen a couple that are. Ignore those.)

Once at the bottom of the page, if you haven’t seen my picture, click the next page number.

This is page one, indicated by the blue square around the number “1.” Click on the number “2.”

STEP THREE: Find my picture and click VIEW to VIEW it.

Here, my picture is at the bottom of page 2. You’ll recognize it because it looks like the picture I posted above, and also it will have my name on it and the words “The Yoga Dance.”

Ahh, I’ve SEEN that picture before!

Once you click on it, you will find a page that looks like this.

Scroll down.

STEP FOUR: Click on the box that says “VOTE”

If you’re feeling ambitious, you can “like” it or “tweet” it as well. Hooray, social media!

You will be politely rewarded for your participation.

Feel free to come up with your own caption.

And that, my dear Watson, is how you can win a trip to Ireland. Or rather, how you can help me win a photo contest to win a trip to give to my parents to go to Ireland.

Thanks for helping, if you decide to, or if you already have. And if you don’t want to, that’s fine, too. I’ll just track you using my electronic surveillance devices and deliver viruses into your computer.

Happy Monday. I’ll write something better soon.

  1. Are you sending us to Ireland to pay off the fine? I want to go to Scotland actually. Any contest for that? I would only go to Ireland if you did.

  2. Well unless it says 82, my vote still didn’t count and I followed all the steps.

  3. Funny as always Jenny. All done, I’m sure my vote will tip the scales! Shared it on Facebook too!
